This review is about my recent stay – the third in the space of six months. While only for two nights I certainly have the options of staying elsewhere but this hotel always delivers because of the staff and service. Yes, the rooms could be a bit more modern, but so can the rooms at 3, 4 and 5 star hotels all over the world.
Check-in was efficient and friendly – as always. Directions to my room (there are rwo-ways to get to all rooms) were the quickest option.
Rooms are large and well-appointed. Bathrooms are large and clean. Towels seem very new and veru ‘soft’.
I had the room service breakfast on my last morning. A warning here … the quality is great and portions HUGE. While it may say “has brown” on the menu – it means two will be delivered. Same for sausage, etc etc.
Now a couple of comments regarding some recent “gripes” from other reviews about check-out charges, shuttle and lifts.
All hotels in Australia and New Zealand do charge for payments with most credit cards – because the banks charge hotels for that service. So the hotel don’t profit that much at all.
Shuttle service costs every hotel whether you pay for it within your room rate (i.e. yes that limo from the airport to a 5-star hotel actually costs someone money) or you pay separately. So don’t complain about NZD$6 each way for a bus – or pay NZD$20-30 for a one-way taxi/cab.
Lifts – there is two levels – ground and level 1 (room numbers starting with 1 and 2 respectively). Expecting a lift at ANY two-level hotel in the world is laughable.
Check-in staff ALWAYS ask if you need a hand with your bags .. and I only have carry-on. If you cannot walk a 14-step flight of stairs (with or without luggage) you should not travel.
